Overcoming Challenges
In the talk "However Long and Hard the Road " by Jeffrey R. and Patricia T. Holland, Sister Holland said "The only limitations you have are those you set on yourselves." I find that a lot of times that is the case. We put expectations for ourselves and bring ourselves down because we don't think we are good enough or can't do it. We need to get past that and believe that we can do it. Sometimes we have to work even harder than others to finish a goal. Sometimes they are easier. The thing we need to remember is that we need to believe in ourselves and focus on the positive and keep trying. Don't give up. If we have a positive outlook and keep trying we will find that we eventually get there and we can look back and be satisfied and happy that we believed in ourselves. It always helps when we recognize God in that process and His help too.
"Good Things to Come" by Elder Holland quotes at the end of his story. “Don't you quit! You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead. Some blessings come soon. Some come late, and some don't come till Heaven. But for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come. It will be alright in the end. Trust God, and believe in good things to come.” I love this and always get emotional when I read or hear this because I believe this whole heartedly. I know that the Lord helps us when we ask and believe. Heck, he sometimes helps even when we don't ask. It's a tender mercy (or a God wink) to let us know that we are watched over and loved. Believe in Him and His goodness and we will be blessed and recognize those blessings.
David Carrington said "Realize most people’s first ideas is the low-hanging fruit, it’s not the challenging one. The best ideas are probably the third." I find that to be true. I get a lot of great ideas at first but then the more I think about it I find more and even better ones down the road. When I was taking graphic design classes I had to come up with 36 different ideas for a book cover or album or logo. I didn't think I could but the more I thought and came up with one type of idea, I could come up with variations from that one idea. Then I would go to another idea. On and on. It was so neat to do that. In fact, in the beginning I thought it was a pain to try and figure out that many ideas but now as I help people with logos or posters for a theater play I don't have a problem coming up with that many now. When once there was a challenge, there is now opportunity. It's amazing to keep thinking of more ideas.
I'm looking forward to taking on challenges with this in mind. To trust in God that things will work out the way they are supposed to and that God has me. He is there for me. I must also do my part. "Faith without works is dead." I can't expect the Lord to help me if I don't make an effort. I look forward to making more of an effort.
